AETC Strengthens Strategic Collaboration with Ghana’s Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment to Advance Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship
As part of its commitment to advancing youth empowerment, entrepreneurship and sustainable development across Africa, the leadership of the Africa Energy Technology Centre (AETC) paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment to strengthen institutional collaboration and explore strategic opportunities to support Ghana’s national youth development agenda. The engagement reaffirmed AETC’s commitment to working alongside government and key stakeholders to equip young people with the skills, opportunities and support systems required to become drivers of Africa’s energy transition and economic transformation.
The delegation was received by the Honourable George Opare Addo, Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, who welcomed AETC’s vision and acknowledged the important role that indigenous Pan-African institutions can play in supporting Ghana’s development priorities. The meeting provided an opportunity for AETC to share the Centre’s strategic initiatives while exploring areas of collaboration that align with the Ministry’s vision of empowering young people through innovation, entrepreneurship, leadership development and sustainable job creation.
Speaking during the engagement, Founder & President of the Africa Energy Technology Centre, Ms. Emelia Akumah, reaffirmed AETC’s commitment to serving as a leading Pan-African platform that convenes governments, policymakers, industry leaders, development partners, academia, investors and innovators to promote dialogue, strengthen partnerships and develop practical solutions that advance Africa’s energy and technology sectors. She emphasized that empowering young people must remain central to Africa’s long-term development strategy, particularly as the continent seeks to accelerate industrialisation, innovation and inclusive economic growth.
Ms. Akumah also highlighted the vision of the Youth Energy Entrepreneurship & Incubation Programme (YEEIP), one of AETC’s flagship initiatives designed to nurture the next generation of African entrepreneurs, innovators and business leaders. She explained that the programme seeks to provide young people with technical capacity building, entrepreneurship training, mentorship, business incubation and strategic industry partnerships that will enable them to develop innovative solutions while creating sustainable employment opportunities within the energy and technology sectors. She further noted that the programme closely aligns with the Ministry’s mandate to empower young people through innovation, entrepreneurship and leadership development.
The Honourable Minister commended AETC for its strategic vision and expressed appreciation for the Centre’s growing contribution towards youth development and innovation. He underscored the importance of creating sustainable pathways that enable young Ghanaians to develop practical skills, build successful enterprises and actively contribute to the country’s socio-economic development. He further encouraged stronger collaboration between government and indigenous institutions whose programmes complement national development priorities and create meaningful opportunities for young people.
A key outcome of the engagement was the mutual commitment to commence the development of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment and the Africa Energy Technology Centre. The proposed framework is expected to establish a long-term strategic partnership that will provide a structured platform for implementing practical, measurable and sustainable interventions aimed at advancing youth empowerment across Ghana.
Discussions explored several priority areas of collaboration, including the implementation of the Youth Energy Entrepreneurship & Incubation Programme (YEEIP), joint policy dialogue on strengthening youth participation within Ghana’s energy and technology sectors, entrepreneurship and leadership development programmes, resource mobilisation and strategic partnership development, collaborative needs assessments to inform programme implementation, and the establishment of a Joint Technical Working Group to develop an implementation roadmap and facilitate effective coordination between the Ministry and AETC.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close engagement as technical teams work towards formalising the proposed partnership framework. The envisioned collaboration reflects a shared commitment to developing innovative, youth-centred programmes that create sustainable livelihoods, strengthen entrepreneurship ecosystems and position young people as active contributors to Ghana’s economic transformation.
