Version 2027-02, in force since 18 September 2026.
AETC exists so that the people building Africa's energy future can meet, debate and do business. That only works if everyone is safe, respected and taken seriously.
This code applies to everyone taking part in the Africa Energy Technology Conference: delegates, speakers, moderators, sponsors, exhibitors, journalists, partners, staff, volunteers and suppliers. It applies at every session and workshop, at Labadi Beach Hotel and CEIBS Ghana, at the exhibition, the Africa Energy Rave Soirée, the Gala Dinner and Awards Night and the Deal Room, at any official side event, and online, including on our website, our live photo wall, in chats with our team and, once they are released, in the AETC apps.
What We Expect
- Treat everyone as a professional peer, whatever their seniority, employer, nationality, ethnicity, gender, age, religion, disability or appearance.
- Disagree with the argument, not the person. Robust debate is the point of the conference; contempt is not.
- Ask before you photograph or film someone up close, and before you add them to a list or share their details.
- Respect a "no" the first time, whether it is about a meeting, a photograph, a conversation or a follow-up.
- Respect the programme: keep to your speaking time, let others ask their questions, and keep phones silent in sessions.
- Follow the safety instructions of the venues and the directions of AETC staff.
What Is Not Acceptable
- Harassment of any kind, including offensive or unwelcome comments about someone's identity or appearance, unwanted attention or physical contact, following someone, and continuing to contact someone after being asked to stop.
- Sexual language, imagery or behaviour, unless it is part of an approved session about the subject.
- Discrimination, intimidation, threats or violence.
- Deliberately disrupting a session, a speaker or an exhibition stand.
- Sharing someone's private information without their permission, or photographing badges or screens to collect people's contact details.
- Recording a session or a private conversation without the agreement of the speaker or the people involved.
- Offering bribes, inducements or improper payments in connection with any business done at the conference.
- Selling or promoting products from the floor, in sessions or in shared spaces, unless you are a sponsor or exhibitor doing so from your own stand.
- Using another person's pass, or letting someone else use yours.
If Something Happens
If anything makes you, or someone else, feel unsafe or unwelcome, please tell us. You can:
- speak to any member of AETC staff, who wear AETC staff badges;
- go to the registration desk at either venue;
- call +233 (0) 53 084 5646 during the conference;
- write to info@aetconference.com, putting "Conduct" in the subject line, at any time before, during or after the conference.
We will listen and take you seriously. We will not ask you to repeat your account to more people than necessary, we will tell you what we intend to do, and we will keep what you tell us confidential, sharing it only with those who need to know to deal with it. We will not tell the person you reported who you are without asking you first.
If you or anyone else is in immediate danger, go to a member of staff or the venue's security team straight away. In an emergency in Ghana, call 112, or 191 for the police and 193 for an ambulance.
What We May Do
Depending on what happened, we may speak to the person concerned, ask them to stop, ask them to leave a session, remove their access to the website's interactive features, withdraw their pass without a refund, remove an exhibitor's staff from the floor or close a stand, inform their employer or the organisation they represent, or involve the police. We may refuse them a place at future editions of AETC.
We will act fairly: where it is safe to do so, we will hear from everyone involved before we decide. Nothing in this code stops anyone reporting a crime to the police.
For Sponsors, Exhibitors and Speakers
This code covers your stand, your session, your staff and anyone working on your behalf, so please make sure they have read it. Stand activities, materials and presentations must be suitable for a professional audience, and must not rely on anyone's appearance or on staff being approached.
Changes to This Code
When this code changes we publish a new version, and the date it came into force is shown at the top of this page.
