Women and Girls in Energy (WAGiE)

As Africa strives toward a more sustainable and inclusive energy future, the role of women in driving and determining the trajectory of the continent’s energy ecosystem cannot be overemphasised. Yet the representation of women in both leadership and technical roles continues to lag, a gap driven by unequal access to education, limited technical and skills training, and biased policies.

Under the 2027 theme, the Women and Girls in Energy programme sharpens its focus on women as engineers, founders and owners. If Africa is to engineer its own energy sovereignty, it must draw on the full depth of its talent. This session convenes leading experts on technology and policy integration, gender equity, and the pathways that move women from participation to ownership.
